LG Refrigerator Will Not Stay Cold
Has your refrigerator stopped getting cold? Is it warm at best? Does your food perish rapidly? Is your freezer seldom frosty? These are the signs of a dying fridge, but it can be fixed. LG ’fridges in the side-by-side and French door models are known for having this problem, but other brands also report snafus. River City Appliance has the answer for you if your refrigerator does not stay chilly.
What’s a Compressor?
The refrigerator compressor pumps the liquid that keeps the inside of the machine cold. By pressurizing this coolant, the compressor begins the condensation and evaporation cycle that makes the ’fridge operate. Your refrigerator thermostat measures the temperature inside and sends the signal that turns the compressor on or off. If the compressor weakens or stops, this process slows or stops completely, meaning the air inside becomes progressively warmer or just stops being cold.
Typically, a refrigerator compressor should last approximately 10 years. If the refrigerator coils are left really dusty or the ’fridge is in a tight area with little air flow for the heat produced by the compressor to dissipate, then the appliance is likely to stop working after only five to seven years. Consistent cleaning of the coils and keeping airflow surrounding the refrigerator may help it last from fifteen to twenty years.
When Compressors Break Down
A burned-out compressor requires replacement, but cooling worries might also be caused by a bad thermostat, an evaporator leak, or bad fridge seals. LG underwent a class-action lawsuit because of compressor problems with its French door and side-by-side units made between 2014 and 2017. Since this is commonly a sign of a prone-to-trouble manufacturing run, leading to a lot of house calls, River City Appliance keeps a considerable supply of LG refrigerator parts and compressors to meet the demands of our Lincoln customers on hand.
