LG Refrigerator Won’t Stay Cold
Has your refrigerator quit getting the job done? It only needs to accomplish one single thing — make things cold. When it quits at that, your ’fridge just becomes a gigantic waste of money! Food spoils faster, beverages get lukewarm, and ice never freezes. Although LG refrigerators in side-by-side and French door types are often mentioned in connection with this difficulty, similar designs by other makers are equally problematic. Fortunately, River City Appliance has the answer for you when it comes to working on any model of refrigerator.
What’s a Compressor?
A refrigerator needs a part called the compressor. As the name suggests, it compresses the liquid that makes the refrigerator work. A thermostat turns the compressor off and on, based on the internal temperature of the refrigerator. If the compressor weakens, a refrigerator gets warmer, no matter how much you adjust the thermostat.
Refrigerator compressors tend to last approximately ten years. They endure longer if the fridge is allowed plenty of air flow and if the coils and surroundings are well-maintained and dust free. Unclean coils or a tight area with little to no air flow may cause a compressor to overheat, killing it within five to seven years.
When Compressors Die
Failing compressors require replacement. Before River City Appliance changes a compressor, we always test for other reasons why the refrigerator might not be functional. A bad thermostat, leaking refrigerator seals, or an evaporator leak can also create cooling problems. LG refrigerators in the French door and side-by-side models are known to have this issue, so River City Appliance consistently has LG refrigerator parts on hand in our warehouse.
