GE Refrigerators
General Electric or GE is a well-known brand in the appliance industry. Established over a century ago, GE has a reputation for its reliability, wide range of products offered, and customer satisfaction. Perhaps you too appreciate this competitive brand and have made it an integral part of your kitchen. Unfortunately, even quality appliances such as GE do at times encounter issues. That’s when you call River City Appliance, the experts at diagnosing and fixing GE refrigerator problems!
GE Refrigerator Problems and Fixes
Although known for their reliability, GE refrigerators will at times have problems. Here are some of the common GE refrigerator issues and their fixes:
Not cooling properly – Since cooling is the primary job of a refrigerator, this is certainly a problem! In most cases, the culprit is dirty condenser coils, improper air circulation, or incorrect temperature settings. Cleaning the coils, moving the refrigerator away from the wall to allow for air circulation, or resetting the unit by unplugging it for a few minutes and then plugging it back in and setting temperatures usually resolves the problem.
Water dispenser or ice maker not working – Instant water and ice dispensed by your refrigerator/freezer is a wonderful convenience! How disappointing when the dispenser isn’t working! Ensuring the water supply to the refrigerator is connected and turned on is key. Check for any ice blockages and remove them. Replace the water filter (this should be done every 6 months). If this does not fix the issue, then the water inlet valve is most likely faulty and needs replacement.
Frost buildup – A build up of ice in your freezer is definitely a problem. The reason could be as simple as air leaking into the compartment due to a defective door seal, or excess wear to the gaskets. More complex problems involve a failed defrost control board, defrost timer, or defrost heater. Diagnosing the problem and replacing the non-working part typically fixes the problem.
Loud noises – Turning up the volume on your TV or phone may cover up the problem, but ultimately loud noises coming from your refrigerator should not be ignored. In most cases the noise is due to an overworked condenser or evaporator fan. It is important to check for and remove debris or ice buildup around the fans. If this does not alleviate the noise, then the fan motors may be defective and need replacement.
Properly identifying and fixing problems with your GE refrigerator is important to the lifespan of this appliance investment.
