Has your refrigerator stopped getting the job done? It only needs to handle one single thing — keep things cold. When it fails at that, your ’fridge turns into a huge waste of electricity! Food spoils quicker, beverages become lukewarm, and ice cream never freezes. Although LG refrigerators in side-by-side and French door types are often mentioned in connection with this issue, similar designs by other brands are equally troublesome. Fortunately, River City Appliance has the solution for you when it comes to fixing any make of refrigerator.
What is a Compressor?
The refrigerator compressor moves the coolant that keeps the inside of the machine cold. By pressurizing this coolant, the compressor begins the condensation and evaporation process that lets the fridge work right. Your refrigerator thermostat monitors the temperature inside and transmits the signal that turns the compressor off and on. Whenever the compressor weakens or stops working, this process slows or stops altogether. Then the temperature inside gets progressively warmer or completely stops being cold.
Refrigerator compressors tend to last approximately ten years. They last longer if the ’fridge is allowed plenty of airflow and if the coils and surroundings are maintained clean. Unclean coils or a tight location can cause a compressor to overheat, killing it within 5 to 7 years.
When Compressors Fail
Dying compressors need replacement. Before River City Appliance changes a compressor, we always look for other reasons why the fridge may not be running. A faulty thermostat, an evaporator leak, or worn-out refrigerator seals can also cause cooling worries. LG refrigerators in the side-by-side and French door models are known to have this issue, so River City Appliance always keeps LG refrigerator parts on hand in our warehouse.
