LG Refrigerator Won’t Stay Cold
Has your refrigerator stopped getting the job done? It only needs to accomplish a single thing — keep food cold. When it fails at that, your fridge is just a giant waste of money! Food spoils faster, beverages become warm, and ice cream never freezes. Even though LG refrigerators in French door and side-by-side models are often mentioned in connection with this issue, similar designs by other makers are also prone to trouble. Fortunately, River City Appliance has the answer for you when it comes to working on any make of refrigerator.
What is a Compressor?
The refrigerator compressor compresses the refrigerant that keeps the inside of the fridge cold. By pressurizing this coolant, the compressor begins the evaporation and condensation process that makes the fridge operate. A refrigerator thermostat monitors the temperature inside and transmits the signal that turns the compressor off or on. If the compressor weakens or stops working, this process slows or stops altogether, meaning the air inside becomes progressively warmer or quits being cold altogether.
Typically, a refrigerator compressor should last approximately ten years. When the refrigerator coils are left really dirty or the fridge is in a tight area with little air for the heat made by the compressor to dissipate, then the unit is likely to go on the fritz after only five to seven years. Scheduled cleaning of the coils and keeping airflow near the refrigerator may help it last from 15 to 20 years.
When Compressors Quit Working Correctly
Dying compressors need changing. Before River City Appliance replaces the compressor, we always test for other reasons why the ’fridge might not be working. A faulty thermostat, an evaporator leak or failing refrigerator seals may also lead to cooling issues. LG refrigerators in the side-by-side and French door models are known to have this difficulty, so River City Appliance consistently has LG refrigerator parts on hand at our warehouse.
