LG Refrigerator Will Not Stay Cold
Has your refrigerator stopped getting the job done? It only needs to take care of one single thing — make things cold. When it fails at that, your fridge just is a gigantic waste of electricity! Food spoils faster, drinks become lukewarm, and ice never freezes. Although LG refrigerators in side-by-side and French door models are commonly mentioned in connection with this issue, similar designs by other manufacturers are also prone to trouble. Fortunately, River City Appliance has the answer for you when it comes to repairing any make of refrigerator.
What is a Compressor?
The refrigerator compressor moves the refrigerant that keeps the inside of the appliance cold. By pressurizing this coolant, the compressor starts the condensation and evaporation cycle that makes the fridge work. Your refrigerator thermostat monitors the temperature inside and sends a signal that turns the compressor off and on. Whenever the compressor weakens or quits working, this process slows or stops completely, meaning the temperature inside gets progressively warmer or just stops being cold.
Refrigerator compressors typically last about 10 years. They last longer if the ’fridge is allowed plenty of airflow and if the coils and surroundings are kept clean. Unclean coils or a tight spot might cause a compressor to overheat, killing it within 5 to 7 years.
When Compressors Go Kaputt
Failing compressors require replacing. Before River City Appliance changes a compressor, we always test for other reasons why your ’fridge might not be running. A faulty thermostat, an evaporator leak, or failing refrigerator seals might also create cooling problems. LG refrigerators in the French door and side-by-side models are known to have this problem, so River City Appliance always keeps LG refrigerator parts on hand in our warehouse.
